Demand an immediate moratorium on new QLD AI data centres

Residents of Queensland draw to the attention of the House to the unprecedented AI data centre proposals across Western Downs, Cloncurry, Ipswich, and regional Queensland that lack coordinated cumulative impact assessment and must be paused until appropriate regulations are put in place.

We are concerned that approvals ignore combined effects on grid capacity (3,242MW proposed vs 110MW planned), risking blackouts and higher bills; water security in drought areas; irreversible agricultural land loss; and community amenity.

We call for a 12 month moratorium on data centre approval and construction until community consultation, safety and wellbeing, environmental protection, and energy and water supply are protected.

Why is this important?

Hyperscale data centres proposed across QLD threaten our agricultural land, water supply and power bills. It's not too late to stop these projects, but we have to demonstrate to the state government that the people demand a pause on these projects until the right protections are in place.
