Pause the Darling Downs AI Data Centre

The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the proposed Western Downs Digital Park data center development in the Western Downs region is a matter of significant concern to the local community.
The development is a large-scale data center project which has the potential to alter the surrounding rural environment and affect existing residents, landholders and agricultural activities. The petitioners are concerned about the potential impacts of the development, including its scale, noise, water requirements, traffic and road impacts, agricultural land, electricity and other infrastructure requirements, environmental impacts, visual amenity, fire and emergency management, and proposed construction workforce accommodation.
Your petitioners do not support the development being established in the Western Downs region and believe that a development of this scale is inappropriate for the proposed location.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:
- Oppose the proposed Western Downs Digital Park data center development and take all available steps to prevent it from proceeding at the proposed location;
- Ensure that the concerns of residents, landholders, agricultural producers and the Western Downs community are fully considered in all government and regulatory decision-making concerning the proposed development; and
- Protect the rural character, agricultural values, environmental values, community amenity and infrastructure capacity of the Western Downs region.
Why is this important?
The Darling Downs is QLD's foodbowl. Having already fought off massive fracking fields, together we can stop tech billionaires at Anthropic from building their hyperscale AI data centre near our communities, and draining our power and water supply.
